Overview
The Sales Engineer works closely with our targeted accounts in the designated region to successfully build trusted and strong relationships with the customers, and to ensure Southco is a valued partner to assist in the growth of their business. This individual will interact with Design Engineers, Purchasing, Engineering Managers, and others as appropriate, at the customer location to ensure that we offer relevant design solutions that support the customer's growth and future product development. The Sales Engineer is the liaison with the client and represents the client's needs with internal departments such as Customer Service, Design Engineers, Production, Operations and Supply Chain. The Sales Engineer is directly responsible for the management and successful growth of Southco Key Accounts as designated by Southco Management. This position is based in the Midwest territory, and the successful candidate will reside in the OH area.
 
Qualifications
  • BS Mechanical Engineering degree.  
  • 0-3 of sales experience in a similar industry, component based sales for business to business.  
  • Display an understanding of top and bottom line business issues and impacts.
  • Computer literacy and the ability to develop proficiency with various Southco software programs including Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Salesforce.com
  • Excellent sales ability, communication, presentation and listening skills.
  • Strong skills in relationship building, collaboration and teamwork required.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate high level of initiative.
  • Domestic and international travel is required.
 
Responsibilities
• Meet with 15-20 contacts per week, at designated key accounts, develop relationships with key contacts including senior level individuals, identify and target new business opportunities and document all pertinent activity in Salesforce.com (SFDC).
• Meet or exceed established market share and sales revenue performance targets for assigned Key Account customers.
• Develop and implement an annual strategic business plan in accordance with Southco Management’s goals and objectives. The plan will list and detail business growth objectives relevant to all major Key Account programs.
• Prepare and submit Monthly Overview summaries to communicate significant field activities and record progress of critical customer programs.
• Use SFDC Activity manager daily to plan, document and execute pertinent business activities (i.e., meetings, telephone conversations, quotes, sample requests, etc.) Use SFDC Opportunity manager to characterize and communicate key account opportunities and prepare periodic forecast updates. At a minimum, all existing and high and medium probability business opportunities must be captured and detailed. Enter and keep updated a minimum of 80% of Key Account business in SFDC opportunity manager (Goal package = 80%)
• Communicate marketplace activity to Southco Product and Industry management personnel. Identify “value enablers” for all designated Key Accounts and prepare proposals as required.
• Preparation of quarterly customer and gap analysis presentations and an annual goal-setting package. Timely submission of an annual goal-setting package to sales management. The goal package will identify at least 80% of manageable business focusing on existing and projected new, high and medium probability opportunities, and applications.
